The Ranger Service is part of the Christchurch City Council's Regional Parks Team that oversees the management of the city's regional parks.

In the Styx catchment their role is to:

• provide a uniformed ranger service to act as an interface between the community, the park resource and Christchurch City Council policies and laws
• develop the Styx Mill Conservation Reserve
• facilitate community planting days and public events
• facilitate volunteers, both individuals and groups, working in parks
• provide an after hours service
• provide assistance with educational projects to schools
